There is absolutely nothing more delicious than homemade bread and it doesn't have to be a special occasion thing! I promise making your own sandwich bread is easier than you think, and while using a mixer makes things a little easier, you can make bread with just a regular bowl and your bare hands! Here's the recipe for my GO TO sandwich bread.

This recipe will make two loaves

Ingredients:

6 Cups all purpose flour

2 Cups warm water

2/3 Cup sugar

1/4 Cup of oil or melted butter ( I use peasant oil)

1 Tablespoons yeast

1 Teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. In your mixing bowl combine water, sugar and yeast

  2. Let it sit for five minutes while the yeast wakes up and gets all happy

  3. Add oil, salt and 3 cups of flour

  4. If using a kitchen aid mixer, start with paddle attachment and mix until you have what looks like a batter

  5. Switch to dough hook

  6. With mixer on, add in remaining flour 1 cup at a time

  7. Knead dough in mixer 5 minutes until dough is smooth

  8. Shape into a smooth ball, cover and let rise for 60-90 minutes until doubled in size

  9. Punch down the dough and divide into two equal pieces

  10. Flatten dough into a rectangle either with your hands or rolling pin

  11. Roll up "jelly roll" style and pinch the ends and seams closed

  12. Place seam side down into a well buttered bread pan

  13. Repeat steps for remaining dough

  14. Cover bread pans and let rise another 60 minutes or until doubled in size

  15. Uncover and bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes

  16. Remove from oven and immediately butter tops of bread with about a tablespoon of butter

  17. Allow to cool if you can stand the wait!!

  18. Enjoy!!

Note: Hot bread is delicious but if you want proper slices for sandwiches you will need to let the loaves cool completely BEFORE slicing.
