A LITTLE ABOUT ME

Hi and thanks for stopping by! My name is Maryam and first and foremost I'm  a mother of four amazing children, three boys and a girl. My home cooking journey began a while I was pregnant with my oldest son, who is as I type finishing up his Junior year of college. However, I really started paying attention to ingredients after my son had a reaction to a red dye filled fruit punch he was given at a children's party.

I was shocked when I found out this was a common response to this FDA approved ingredient, and that it was linked to childhood cancers. From that moment on, I made a point to be informed about the ingredients that lurked in our store bought foods, and better yet, avoid prepackaged foods as much as possible.

All of my children were born in Northern Virginia just outside of Washington D.C., however 10 years ago we ended up in South Central Mississippi. I have always homeschooled my children (pre-covid) and I couldn't imagine it any other way. In addition to traditional academics the children have been able to raise chickens for fresh meat and eggs, quail and rabbits. They also grow their own organic garden. Mississippi has helped elevate my passion for a more organic lifestyle. I love to draw inspiration from the generation before me. Give me a great grandma or grandpa and I'll give you some of the best advice and recipes you'll ever have the privilege of encountering.

Home cooked meals enjoyed around the table seems to be dying off more with each generation. I'm here to encourage the return of this declining tradition. It's about so much more than eating. It's about the health, togetherness and memories that are created when a table of food brings us all together.
