Soft Pretzels

Forget that pretzel stand at the mall, you can make hot delicious pretzels at home NO PROBLEM ! Yes you! It’s simple!

Ingredients:

2 Cups of milk, heated until warm

1 1/2 Tablespoons yeast

6 Tablespoons brown sugar

4 Tablespoons of butter, room temperature

4- 5 Cups of flour

2 Teaspoons of salt



Directions:

  • Combine milk , yeast, and sugar

  • Let sit 5 minutes

  • Add brown sugar, butter, and salt

  • And 1 cup of flour

  • Add flour one cup at a time until the dough pulls away from the bowl and is no longer sticky. 4 cups is what it usually takes but if needed add 1/2 cup of flour more at a time until the dough pulls away from the bowl and is no longer sticky.

  • Knead for 5 minutes.

  • Shape into a smooth ball.

  • Cover and rise in a warm place for an hour.

  • Punch down dough

  • Divide into 12 even parts

  • On a counter, roll out each part into a 32-36 inch rope.

  • Shape into a pretzel shape

  • In a large pot mix 9 cups of warm water and 1/2 cup of baking soda until baking soda is well dissolved.

  • Bring mixture a boil

  • Dip each pretzel into baking soda solution for 20 seconds exactly.

  • Let excess liquid drip off and place on lined baking sheet.

  • Sprinkle with course salt if desired.

  • Bake at 450 degrees for 8 -10 minutes.

  • Brush with melted butter.

  • ENJOY!

  • To make cinnamon sugar brush with butter and cover in cinnamon sugar.
