Hand Pies

These heart shaped cherry hand pies are so darling and delicious! They are quick and easy, you can fill them with any kind of filling, in any shape. My favorite is the jack-o-lantern pumpkin pie ones I make on the fall but these heart shaped ones are perfect for Valentines Day!


Ingredients:

2 Cups flour

2 Tablespoons sugar

1 1/2 Teaspoons salt

16 Tablespoons cold cubed butter

1/2 cup ice cold water

1 Egg

1 Tablespoon milk

Water for wetting edges

Filling of choice


Filling possibilities:

Pie filling

Jam

Nutella

Cream cheese

Cinnamon sugar

Curd



Instructions:


  1. Mix Flour, sugar, and salt

  2. Into the flour cut in butter with pastry cutter or fork until only pea sized butter pieces remain

  3. With a fork mix in cold water

  4. Form dough into a ball and flatten into a disk

  5. Chill for 20 minutes

  6. Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness

  7. Cut into desired shape

  8. Fill with about a tablespoon of desired filling

  9. Use your finger tip to wet edges of dough with water. It will act like glue when sealing your dough Add top layer of crust

  10. Press edges together and seal seam with a fork

  11. Cut a couple slots into the top to release steam

  12. Brush with egg wash ( one egg mixed with one tablespoon milk).

  13. Bake in oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
