Skip the trip to the mall! You can make your favorite soft pretzels in the comfort of your very own kitchen. It is super easy and won't take long at all! Follow the simple instructions below to get started!

Ingredients:

2 Cups of warm milk

1 1/2 Tablespoons yeast

6 Tablespoons brown sugar

4 Tablespoons butter

4-5 Cups of flour

2 Teaspoons salt

1/2 Cup baking soda

9 Cups water

Course salt

Cinnamon sugar ( if desired )

Everything Bagel seasoning ( if desired )

Directions:

  1. Make sure your milk is warm ( child bath temperature, not HOT)

  2. In your mixer bowl combine milk, sugar, and yeast

  3. Let sit five minutes allowing for the yeast to bloom

  4. Add butter and salt

  5. Turn your mixer on, using your dough hook, add 1 cup of flour at a time up to 4 cups

  6. If dough isn't pulling away from the sides of the bowl, add additional 1/4 cup of flour at a time until it does. Dough should not stick to your finger when poked.

  7. Once dough pulls away from the side, knead 5-7 minutes

  8. Shape into a smooth ball, place back into mixer bowl or another large bowl, cover and allow to rise for 1 hour

  9. Punch down dough

  10. Divide dough into 12 equal parts

  11. Roll each piece into a 32-36 inch rope

  12. Shape into pretzel shape

  13. In a large pot combine water and baking soda and bring it to a boil

  14. Turn the temperature to low allowing the water to be at a low simmer

  15. Dip each pretzel into the water for 10 seconds exactly

  16. Scoop out and allow excess water to drip off

  17. Place pretzels on a lined baking sheet

  18. Sprinkle with course salt or everything bagel seasoning

  19. Bake in a preheated oven at 450 degrees for 8-10 minutes

  20. Immediately dip in or brush on melted butter

  21. For cinnamon sugar pretzels, after dipping in butter dip pretzels into cinnamon sugar mixture. My favorite cinnamon sugar recipe is below:

Cinnamon sugar:

2/3 cup brown sugar

2/3 cup white sugar

1/4 cup cinnamon

Pinch of salt

Combine and mix all ingredients together well!
