Juicy, tender chicken meatballs tossed in a buttery, sweet-and-spicy homemade hot honey sauce.

If you're looking for a way to take ordinary ground chicken and turn it into something absolutely irresistible, these Hot Honey Chicken Meatballs are about to become a favorite!

These homemade chicken meatballs are seasoned with garlic, Parmesan, and a blend of savory spices, then baked until beautifully golden. The real magic happens when they're tossed in a homemade hot honey sauce made with butter, honey, brown sugar, Sriracha, and hot sauce.

The result? Tender, flavorful meatballs coated in a glossy, sticky sauce that delivers just the right combination of sweetness, heat, and savory goodness.

Serve them over fluffy white rice, sprinkle with freshly sliced green onions, and you've got a delicious dinner that tastes like something you'd order at your favorite restaurant.

And the best part? You can adjust the sauce to your liking. Prefer a thicker, stickier glaze? I've included an easy optional cornstarch slurry to help the sauce cling to every meatball.

For the Homemade Hot Honey Sauce

  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter

  • ¼ cup Sriracha sauce

  • ¼ cup Texas Pete hot sauce (or your favorite comparable hot sauce)

  • ½ cup honey

  • ½ cup packed brown sugar

  • 5 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

Optional Cornstarch Slurry

For a thicker sauce that clings beautifully to the meatballs:

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • 1 tablespoon cold water

For Serving

  • Cooked white rice

  • Freshly sliced green onions

  • Extra hot honey sauce for drizzling

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Meatball Mixture

Preheat your oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and milk. Allow the mixture to sit for approximately 3–5 minutes, until the breadcrumbs have absorbed the milk.

This simple step helps keep the chicken meatballs tender and juicy rather than dry or dense.

Add the eggs, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, onion, parsley, kosher salt, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, cayenne (if using), and olive oil.

Mix until the ingredients are evenly combined.

Add the ground chicken and gently mix everything together until incorporated. Avoid overmixing, which can make the meatballs tough.

Step 2: Shape and Bake the Meatballs

Using a cookie scoop or your hands, form the chicken mixture into approximately 1½-inch meatballs.

Arrange them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.

Bake for approximately 15–18 minutes, or until the meatballs reach an internal temperature of 165°F.

For a little extra color, you can broil them briefly at the end, keeping a close eye on them to prevent burning.

Step 3: Prepare the Hot Honey Sauce

While the meatballs bake, prepare the sauce.

In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter.

Add the minced garlic and cook for approximately 30–60 seconds, stirring frequently, until fragrant.

Stir in the Sriracha, Texas Pete hot sauce, honey, brown sugar, and soy sauce.

Whisk everything together until the brown sugar has dissolved and the sauce is smooth.

Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for approximately 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

The sauce will thicken slightly as it cooks and cools.

For a thicker, stickier sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together 1 tablespoon cornstarch and 1 tablespoon cold water until smooth.

Slowly whisk the slurry into the simmering hot honey sauce. Allow it to simmer for another 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly, until thickened to your liking.

You can add a little more slurry if needed, but start small. The goal is a beautiful glaze that coats the meatballs without becoming overly thick.

Step 4: Coat the Chicken Meatballs

Once the chicken meatballs are fully cooked, transfer them to a large mixing bowl or skillet.

Pour the warm hot honey sauce over the meatballs and gently toss until every meatball is generously coated.

For an even stickier finish, you can toss the meatballs with the sauce in a skillet over low heat for another minute or two.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy

Spoon the hot honey chicken meatballs over a bed of fluffy white rice.

Drizzle with additional sauce and finish with freshly sliced green onions.

Serve immediately while warm.

Tips for Perfect Hot Honey Chicken Meatballs

Don't overmix the chicken. Ground chicken is naturally lean and can become dense if handled too much. Mix just until the ingredients are incorporated.

Don't skip the milk and breadcrumbs. Together, they create a panade that helps the meatballs retain moisture while baking.

Use freshly grated Parmesan. It adds savory richness that balances the sweetness of the honey and brown sugar.

Adjust the heat. Sriracha and Texas Pete create a flavorful heat without completely overpowering the sweetness. If you prefer a milder sauce, reduce the Sriracha slightly. For more heat, add a pinch of cayenne or red pepper flakes.

Thicken the sauce if desired. The cornstarch slurry is completely optional, but it's especially helpful if you prefer a thick, glossy sauce that really sticks to the meatballs.

Save some sauce for serving. If you're serving these over rice, reserve a little hot honey sauce to drizzle over everything just before eating.

What to Serve With Hot Honey Chicken Meatballs

These meatballs are incredibly versatile. My favorite way to serve them is over fluffy white rice, which soaks up that delicious sweet-and-spicy sauce.

They're also wonderful alongside steamed broccoli, roasted green beans, stir-fried vegetables, or even creamy mashed potatoes.

You can also make smaller meatballs and serve them as an appetizer with toothpicks for parties and gatherings.

Storing and Reheating

Store leftover meatballs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.

Reheat gently in a skillet over medium-low heat with a splash of water or chicken broth to loosen the sauce.

The cooked meatballs can also be frozen for up to 3 months. For best results, freeze them separately from the sauce.

A Little Note From The Southern Dinner Belle

I love taking a simple ingredient like ground chicken and turning it into something completely different from the usual weeknight dinner.

These Hot Honey Chicken Meatballs are everything I love about a good homemade meal: sweet, spicy, savory, comforting, and just a little unexpected.

The Parmesan and garlic give the meatballs a wonderful savory foundation, while that buttery hot honey sauce brings everything together.

And when that extra sauce finds its way into the rice? Even better.

Sweet heat, tender chicken, and plenty of sauce ,that's my kind of dinner!
