If you're looking for a weeknight dinner that's quick, healthy, and bursting with flavor, these Mu Shu Chicken Patties are it. Inspired by the bold, savory flavors of Chinese Mu Shu dishes, this recipe brings that same umami goodness into an easy-to-make patty form. They’re perfect served over sticky rice with stir-fried veggies, but just as delicious tucked into a wrap or even crumbled into a bowl.

With just a handful of pantry staples and fresh aromatics like garlic, ginger, and scallions, you can have dinner on the table in no time — no takeout menu required. These patties are high in protein, low in fuss, and full of flavor, making them a go-to in my kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground chicken

  • 4–6 cloves garlic, minced

  • 4 spring onions, finely chopped

  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

  • 1 tablespoon onion powder

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • (Optional) Salt, to taste — but keep in mind the soy sauce adds plenty of saltiness

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, minced garlic, spring onions, grated ginger, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and pepper. Add salt if needed but the soy sauce usually does the job.

  2. Mix everything together until well combined, then form into 8 even-sized patties.

  3. Heat a bit of oil in a large skillet — just enough to coat the bottom.

  4. Cook the patties over medium heat for about 4 minutes on each side, or until golden and cooked through.

  5. Serve hot with sticky rice and sautéed veggies, or enjoy them in wraps, over salad, or however you like!
